Why everyone should visit Europe in Winter

ice skating in london - travel to london in winter

Europe in winter is a completely different and mesmerising experience.  There’s good reason to believe that no continent can do winter better than Europe.  Picture this: Snow-capped mountain peaks, sparkle of Christmas lights, a local pub with a fire place and the best tasting mulled wine you’ve ever had! It’s all part of a picture-perfect, movie-worthy winter holiday! The idea of a white Christmas excites us tremendously at Expat Explore, and we would like to invite you to see why.

But don’t take our word for it, take the word of these people that have travelled and loved Europe in winter firsthand!

Snow-covered beauty

The views become even more spectacular! While your summer counterpart had a beautiful photo of a mountain peak, you now have a breathtaking photo of a  magical, snowy  mountain peaks.  This may sound hard to believe, but snow can make you feel like a child!  Especially if it’s not something you see often in your home country. When you step outside and the world looks like it’s been swallowed by candyfloss, you naturally want to drop on your back and make a snow angel. Or, perhaps you want to take part in the age-old game of snow-fights.

Less people, more photo opportunities

While we love lounging on the beach and having a few cocktails in the sun, we will gladly trade for ice-skating rinks and gluhwein. Did we mention that there won’t be summer crowd queues? You can get all those iconic photos without the crowds in the background. Switzerland is the ultimate winter-photo destination – with the snow, lakes, mountains and castles.

Don’t let the nippy weather get you down! The temperatures may have dropped, but Europe is always prepared for the cold and will make sure that nothing stops moving. You can keep your limbs warm with some delicious and heart-warming food. Also, hot chocolate made with full cream Swiss milk and real chocolate – nothing like it! It’s so good, in fact, it made it to our European Food Bucket list!
